World’s Smallest Stallion

Meet Einstein, the world’s smallest stallion:

Here he is pictured next to a horse of normal size.

Einstein lives on a farm in New Hampshire, he was purchased from well known mini horse breeder Judy Smith. Most miniature horses are 18 pounds at birth. Einstein is the smallest foal to survive. He has no dwarf characteristics, so he is just a small version of a large horse.

Here you can see a video of him as a newborn and going outside for the first time:

Knut

Knut the famous polar bear from the Berlin Zoo has passed away at the age of 4. It was extremely unexpected, as polar bears can live 15 to 20 years in captivity. Knut was abandoned by his mom at birth and raised by a zoo keeper. He has been featured in tons of pictures, merchandise, and a movie.

World’s Most Expensive Dogs

I recently saw articles online about the world’s most expensive dog, and then I saw this article about the most exensive dogs on the Times.

So here they are, the Most Expensive Dogs:

10. The world’s most expensive dog recently sold for $1.5 million.  The dog’s name is Big Splash (Hong Dong):

He is a red Tibetan mastiff, 11 months old, bred at a private breeding facility in Qingdao City. The Tibetan Mastiff is a status symbol in China, and some puppies can be worth more than a house. Puppies usually go for $2000 to $3000.

9. Lowchen

$4000-7000

The name Lowchen means little lion in German, and with the correct linage these pups are worth a lot. The traditional way to cut the dogs hair keeps it long in front and hairless in the back. The breed is agile and quick – making it good in agility courses.

8. Canadian Eskimo

Around $6000

This is one of the 5 native breeds of Canada, and considered the oldest breed in North America. Originally bred to be a sled dog, the breed is strong and still perfect for that job.

7. Samoyed

$3500 – 6000

The Samoyed is an excellent family dog because it is loyal, smart, and gentile. This is an active dog that enjoys being active. The breed has a thick white coat which is not that easy to maintain.

6. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

$800 to around 12,000

The price for this pup depends on ancestry, with more well bred individuals being very expensive. This toy breed is energetic but very gentile. It easily adapts to city or country life, and even makes a great therapy dog. These dogs were bred for royal, and are featured in many paintings of aristocratic families. This is truly a companion dog.

5. Rottweiler

$2000 – 7000

These are powerful dogs that are known to be loving, loyal family members that are good guard dogs. This breed is intelligent and willing, they make the best pets when they are given certain “jobs” or tasks. These dogs are very popular family pets even given their expensive cost.

4. English Bulldog

Around $2000

These dogs are very popular for their overall look with square body and short, wrinkled face. These dogs would like to consider themselves lap dogs, but many tend to be squirmy and heavy. They have a lovable and gentile disposition. They make excellent family pets – loving, gentile, and protective.

3. Egyptian Pharaoh Hound

$2100 to 2800

The Pharoah Hound is the national dog of Malta, and is rare outside the country. It has no actual link with Egypt. It is intelligent, trainable, and active. However, it can be stubborn. It is not a very aggressive dog, so it does not make the best guard dog.

2. Bearded Collie

$700 – 840

The Bearded Collie was bred to be the best sheep dog. It is active and loving, but the long coat requires a lot of care.  These collies still make excellent family pets.

1. Akita

$400 – 700

This dog symbolizes health, happiness and longevity in Japan. The breed is large and powerful. However, it does not always make the best family pet when you have small children because the dog can have a rapidly changing temperament – one moment loving and the next aggressive.  To make the most successful pets they should have obedience training and be monitored around young children and other animals.

I am not sure about you, but I have seen even common and probably poorly bred puppies in my area going for the range of $400 – $1000 dollars. I have been looking at German Shepherd puppies in my area and they often are listed at $600 – $900.  So I am not so sure, but I assume that this list is based on averages of some sort.

Sorry!

Well, since my trip to San Francisco I have been pretty busy and now I am in Florida with very minimal internet access. So I am posting this update from my phone, but new posts are coming soon. I have at least 5 new stories to post when I finally have the time and internet. Hope you all are having a good week and will have a wonderful St. Patricks Day!

Platypus Day

Disney celebrated Platypus Day on March 5th, in celebration of Perry the Platypus and the new season of Phineas and Ferb.

The show logo:

Logo for Platypus Day:

Phineas and Ferb is an amazing animated show on the Disney channel. Phineas and Ferb are two brothers who try to make the most of every day of summer vacation by having ridiculous adventures. Their sister Candice trys unsuccessfully to tell their mom of her brother’s exploits. Perry is their pet platypus who is actually a secret agent. I think that this cartoon is far better than spongebob – if you want something to compare it to.   The show is funny and very entertaining, I suggest checking out a few episodes.

Perry – as a regular Platypus

Perry as a secret agent

Whether or not you enjoy Phineas and Ferb, I think that we should all pay tribute to the amazing Platypus. I mean, what is not cool about a mammal that lays eggs and looks like a cross between a beaver, an otter, and a duck?

Pokemon Black and White

As of yesterday, 3/6, Pokemon Black and White are now available! These two games feature all new pokemon until you beat the game. I have only played a little bit so far, but I have already encountered a couple new adorable pokemon.

And, for those who buy the game early in the release (March 6 – April 10) there is a special item – the Liberty Pass – that you can download from the Nintendo WiFi channel. This will allow you to be able to catch the pokemon Victini, only available with the pass. It is the first fire and physic type pokemon.

Kawaii Corner

I was in San Francisco for a conference when I happened to walk past a little store called Kawaii Corner.  I could not pass up taking a look at their selection of cute merchandise. They have a website ( kawaiicorner.com) where you can see some of the amazing items they have for sale.

I made a couple perchases:

1. Hamster Popo –

The tag listed a website, but it seems to no longer be in existance. Should I find out more about this adorable hamster I will let you all know.

2. A set of the iwako animal erasers which I previosly posted about:

The little sun next to the erasers was my free gift from a capsule machine. It was a little Pooh Bear peek-a-pooh which has a string on it so you can hang it from bags or cellphones (etc.).  To my surprise as I read the paper about it the little pooh bear actually comes out of its costume!

So cute!

Bye for now!

Flawed Dogs

DreamWorks Animation is going to make a movie out of the picture book and novel “Flawed Dogs” by Berkeley Breathed.

The book is about a dachshund who was ousted from his family by a jealous show dog, and who must reclaim his place.

Here is more full synopsis of the book:

“Sam the Lion is actually a priceless dachshund, bred to be a show dog. More important, he is Heidy’s best friend—and she needs one like never before. Living with her reclusive uncle is hard, but Sam has a way of making her feel soft and whole. Until the day Sam is framed by the jealous poodle Cassius, and is cast out by Heidy’s uncle, alone on the wild streets, where he is roughed up by a world he was not bred for. Sporting a soup ladle for a leg, Sam befriends other abandoned dogs and journeys all the way to the Westminster Dog Show, where his plan for revenge on Cassius takes an unexpected turn when he and Heidy spot each other after years of being apart.”

I have not read this book, but I am very intrigued by the idea and I would love to read it/see the movie.
