Decision 2012

Animal Planet is having a contest called Decision 2012 to decide what type of pet is America’s favorite. It is being run like a mock political campaign and election.

You can submit pictures  or videos to “nominate” their pet.  Pet categories are Dogs, Cats, and Independent – for all other pets.  You then rate each pet photo or video, and you can comment and “campaign” for a pet with Tweets and Likes.  The contest will have different categories as it progresses. The first categories is cutest, and others include smartest, most talented, most athletic and funniest.

Exactly how Decision 2012 works can be found here. It is kind of hard to explain succinctly given the use of the election format.

Description of the Dog Party: Dignity, security and great hair are just a few things dogs have to offer.

Description of the Cat Party: Cats have gotten a bad rap, and it’s time to set the record straight.

Description of the Independent Party: Don’t let the two party system of Dogs and Cats limit your choice for America’s Favorite Pet.

The first ever Golden Collar Awards took place Monday honoring dogs on tv and in the movies. The awards show was only broadcast online, but the creators at dognewsdaily.com hope to have it televised next year. The show drew dog and human stars alike. Six dogs received various awards.

Westminster Dog Show Best in Show

Best in Show for the 136th annual Westminster Dog Show was Malachy, the pekingese.

(Jason DeCrow/AP)

The winning dog receives no prize money, but they do receive the prestigious Best in Show title and the bowl pictured above. This is the 6th time that a Pekingese has won Best in Show at Westminster, and this is the 115th overall Best in Show win for Malachy.

Many dog breeds have never won Best in Show at Westminster and for a few of the other breeds competing for Best in Show it could have been a breed first. Also competing against the Pekingese was a German Shepherd, Dalmatian, Wire Haired Dachshund, Irish Setter,  Kerry Blue Terrier, and Doberman Pinscher. I was hoping the Dalmatian would take it, but that was not the case.

The 6 other dogs that were in the running for the Best in Show title were:

Capi, Babheim‘s Captain Crunch, the German Shepherd

Ian, Spotlight’s Ruffian, the Dalmation

Cinders, Raydachs Playing With Fire, the Wire Haired Dachshund

Puppy Conan

Conan O’Brien unveiled Puppy Conan on his show on Wednesday night in response to the Puppy Bowl.

He had a mini set made up that looks just like his regular set, with puppies dressed up in tiny wigs and a bit of clothing to look like Andy and Conan.

Close up of puppy Conan:

The puppies seemed a bit sad and unappreciative of their attire, so Conan and Andy went to join their puppy counterparts and give them some love. The little chihuahua in front is the puppy show guest, puppy Justin Bieber.
