Legend of the Guardians

I just saw a trailer for a new movie that I really want to see, Legend of the Guardians:

All I can say is that owls are adorable, and owls wearing armor is really cool!

This movie is an adaptation of the children’s book series Guardians of Ga’Hoole by Kathryn Lasky, following the story from the first three books The Capture, The Journey, and The Rescue. There are currently 15 books in the series, with a plan for 25 books in the series. The story follows barn owls who live in peace until they are threatened by a danger that could destroy their home and what the owls do in an attempt to protect their home. The film is directed by Zack Snyder, and is scheduled to be out September 24, 2010.

Here is the cover of the first book:

USA Today featured pictures from the movie:

Noctus, the father of the main character Soren, voiced by Hugo Weaving:

Here are Eglantine, left, Soren, center, and Kludd, right.

Here is Barran, voiced by Deborra-Lee Furness, who is queen of the great tree:

These pictures and the trailer look very interesting and I am excited to see this movie!

For those fans of the book, you can visit Scholastic.com to find more out about the books, learn about owls, and print out different activities related to the books.

Killer Whales?

With all the press surrounding the Orca Tilikum, and whether he should remain at Sea World, I figured that some pictures are worth posting…

I found this picture at Skull Swap. Seems like he wants to smile at everyone…or it could be something else.

Given what has happened, and just the idea of keeping such a large animal in captivity, it seems that what is best for these animals is simply to remain free. But truly I cannot say what is best for the animals, or if using them in performances is dangerous. All I do know is that they sure are cute and magnificent animals!

To  honor them, here are some pictures:
