Cute Super Bowl Commercials 2014

It is game day again, and we here at FT were watching for all the cute commercials.

On par with the past few years I have been disappointed with the quality of the commercials. Too few cute ones with some where you cannot believe the company was willing to spend millions to get that spot. Others had great potential only to include really odd content which prevented me from posting them, like the Muppets car commercial or Chobani bear commercial. Wonder when Coca-Cola will create another polar bear or seal commercial (their ad was very good, just not cute).

My cute picks:

1. Audi – Doberhuahua

This is kind of the feeling I get when people go crazy over new designer breeds. Not always, but sometimes. This commercial is sort of cute, and definitely sends a good message to take care when choosing your next dog so it fits your family and life style.

2. Budweiser – Puppy Love

How can you not love a commercial with an adorable puppy trying to come back to its horse friend? So much to love about this one!

Here is a video about training the animals:

Honorable mention:

1. Cheerios

I like the little girl’s style, go for that puppy!

2. Carmax – puppy version of their commercial

This is an honorable mention because I don’t think this actually played on tv, I think it was only online.  But this is just like the human version of the commercial, but with lots of puppies doing adorable things!

There was not much more to share from this one guys, sorry about that! Maybe next year will be better?

Chusky – Chow Chow Husky Mix

What in the world is a Chusky you ask? Well, it is what some are calling the mixed breed cross between the Siberian Husky and Chow Chow.

Chusky

Always remember that the best indication of what a mixed breed’s temperament and appearance will be are based on that dog’s parents. This is not a pure bred and as such will have a wider variety of differences in major characteristics. That does not mean that a Chusky is not a great dog, just that puppies can be an unknown quantity for size, color, build, etc.

Never base your desire for a certain dog on one picture you see online, especially if there is only one or two. Said pictures may be created in photoshop, altered in some way, is a puppy (that is cute and fluffy) but results in a much different adult dog, or is of a dog which has a particular hair cut.

This is the picture that I have seen spreading around. An animal built more like a Chow, with that fluffy coat, but the coloring of a Husky. This is however, the only picture of its kind when searching for these dogs. So either these dogs come from a well organized foreign Chusky breeder who has worked out how to achieve these looks, these dogs have colored fur, or they are very unique pups.

The reality of the cross is that looks will vary like this:

Chuskies are very intelligent dogs that are playful and can be protective of their families. Given the coat of both breeds involved this dog sheds heavily and the coat requires grooming. These dogs need to be socialized so they can become used to other dogs and people, and not be too aggressive or timid. If your dog has a thick coat they will not tolerate intense heat well, but would do well in cold climates. They will need exercise and a purpose, with the working dog mixed in there combined with their intelligence.

I do not know of any breeders working towards this particular mixed breed. You might be able to find one (accidental or intentional crosses) in your local animal shelter – resembling the more realistic pictures above. I just wanted to write this post because of that single picture that keeps spreading so people are aware of what such a cross most likely means to prevent unnecessary breeding and bring awareness to the wonderful mixed dogs that take up residence in our local shelters in need of homes.

Puppy Bowl X this Sunday!

Don’t forget that this Sunday before the big game is the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet!

The “game” is two hours of watching adorable puppies play on a fake football field. They relay that same game 6 more times Sunday so you can catch it after the real football game if you don’t get a chance before.

If you would like to read some more interesting facts about Puppy Bowl check out CNN’s article 66 Adorable Reasons to Watch Puppy Bowl.

Puppy Bowl X Starting Line Up

Puppy Bowl X is coming on “big game” Sunday (Feb 2) on Animal Planet!

If you have not heard of or watched one of the previous 9 Puppy Bowls it features adorable puppies, 66 of them this year, all playing together with toys on a fake puppy sized football field. Getting a toy to the end zones results in a touch down, rough play results in penalties. It is not so much about the “game” but rather about watching adorable puppies! The puppies all come from local rescues to help raise awareness for these pups and all rescued animals in need of homes.

Viewers get to vote for the MVP – Most Valuable Puppy – during the live event. There is also a half time show featuring kittens and keyboard cat, and cheerleaders.

The best part is that this plays before the big game so you can watch both! It also replays after so you can watch puppies instead of football if that is your thing.

Here are just a few of the adorable puppies in this year’s starting line up:

1. Alvin – Male Poodle

The Others…
I know, but they wish to remain anonymous at this point because they do not take photos very well. They came to me at almost two years of age and cameras are not their thing.

They did love sitting in this though:

Our fur blends in very well with the fuzz around our bed, we love it!

Yes, we did wear the costumes and hats – for about one minute! Long enough to get pictures while munching on carrots and then be off into floor time with more treats.

Beanie Baby Dog Costume

Since I missed posting more pictures for Halloween this year I thought I would post this picture now because it is too good to pass up! And also because I just discovered it today.

Dog dressed as a TY Beanie Baby:

Such a simple but awesome idea! Just make a large heart shaped “hang tag” out of poster board or cardboard, put a TY logo on it, and attach to your dog’s collar. This is all assuming your dog would allow the tag to be on its collar for very long without ripping it apart. I think the key is knowing your dog, and making the tag the right size.
